Most of us have friends or family that, though we haven’t spoken to them in a long time — even years — if we were to text them right now, in a time of need, they’d be there to help us. This is a fine type of relationship for friends, but not for Jesus. If we’re honest, how many of us treat our relationship with Jesus like this? Knowing he’s out there but only reaching out in a time of need? It’s one way to live, but it is not the best way to live. Living at arms length from Jesus will keep you at arms length from all the blessings God has for you; it will keep you at arms length from your purpose in life. The Bible says, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” This is our hint that if we want the Lord close to us, we need to call out to him — with the sorrows of life, the joys, and even the mundane! We draw close to Jesus by honoring him, praising him, and speaking with him daily. Today, if you have been living at arm’s length from Jesus, begin speaking with him again today.
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18
